She is done with the regular painting, and also with the first layer of painted hair. I’m hoping to finish it tomorrow night and then post pictures in the next few days. stay tuned!

This is Lily, a custom order created from the beautiful Lila sculpt by Romie Strydom. This little darling was such a joy to reborn, and her mama is just going to love her! She is currently bald, lol, since her mama is going to wig her.
Isn’t she so sweet?!
This is a close up of her eye, where I painted the lower lashes
And then more pictures of her:
She goes home either tomorrow or Thursday!
I currently have two babies in the works – one is a custom Lila and she is turning out just darling! The other is a Honey, who I am trying some new things on (and when they do well, then I can use them on Lila and future babies
) and who I will try painted hair on. A few things that I’ve tried have made the very newborn look, which is great for Honey but I will not be using on Lila as she is an older baby. Lila’s skin tones are almost done, I think 2 more washes should do it, and then I can start concentrating more on her detailing (I’ve done a bit here and there, but still have much to do). Honey still needs most of her detailing also.
Usually I only work on one baby at a time (unless I’m doing twins), but Lila has a belly plate and, during the time that Lila is baking and then her belly plate (they don’t both fit), I have time and so have been working on Honey during that time.
Things are on a roll here, and I really don’t want to stop, but I must because it’s time for my real job now. But don’t worry babies! I’ll work on you more tonight!
I had told a customer that I was going to do another Owen sculpt for my next reborn, and I did, but it was for a fundraiser and not one that she could adopt. I was going to do another one next, but I am just so tired of that sculpt right now that I think it’s time to move on. I do have another Owen sculpt, so that even when he/she sells out, I can still do one. However, it is going to be quite a while before I am ready to repeat that sculpt.
I’ve only done the same sculpt more than once for 6 sculpts (and this is my 75th baby) and I’ve never repeated one right after finishing the first one. Wow, it is just tiring because I felt like this baby should have been done soooo long ago lol. Next up for painting is probably Elise or Honey. Felicia is getting sent off to get fairy ears because I want to reborn her as a fairy, but she won’t be back and ready to reborn for several weeks or so.
Now…Elise…or Honey? I’ll think it over during the week, while taking a little down time between babies, and then decide by Sunday night (when I’ll start on one of them).
Well, I can’t work on my wip baby any tonight because first I have to rearrange my room. ??? I know, this begs an explanation. And it’s coming, but be forewarned that it’s not short. ok, here goes:
Since it’s been in the mid to high 80s all week, the bugs are out like crazy. And since I use a daylight lamp to work with (at all times, but it’s a must at night), bugs are attracted to my light. And since the sealing in this apartment stinks (and in the other ones, from what I’ve heard), the bugs come in whether the window is closed or not. Though I’d love to have the window open because the only time it’s cool is at night, I keep it closed because the bugs are twice as bad with it open. I believe this is mostly because of the crummy sealing, but is probably not helped by the fact that my desk (and thus my lamp) is directly in front of the window, hypnotizing and luring bugs from miles around (slight exaggeration here).
And so, in hopes of correcting this issue, tomorrow morning I am going to be rearranging my tiny room so that my bed is on that wall and my desk is on the opposite wall (where my bed currently is). I am not thrilled about this idea, since my laptop light is sure to attract some bugs (as it did the other night when I shut off my daylight lam, flopped into bed, and opened my laptop), but I don’t see any other way because I simply cannot work on the babies when there are bugs flying in my face (not to mention it’s just gross).
Next Monday or Tuesday I should hear back from the bank on whether or not I’m approved for a home loan. If so, then hooray! and I’ll be able to wait for a month or two until the move (though my room is still getting rearranged tomorrow morning). If not, then I will be buying some very meshed mesh (you know what I mean, right?) and tacking over the entire window and frame, to keep the bugs out during this summer. And I might have to do the same for the patio door and the other two windows in the apartment, as they are just as bad.
As you know, I was thinking of sculpting fairy ears onto a kit, like I’ve done in the past, but I really don’t enjoy the process. During a search online, to see if there is an easier way or if there are ANY other fairy babies out there, I came across a reborn artist who sculpts ears onto sculpts quite often. And she does it for others! So, for a really decent price, she would sculpt the ears onto whichever head I end up sending to her.
She sent me pictures of different ears she’s done and I like them a lot. Some people would say this is cheating, but I don’t think it’s any more so than buying a sculpt instead of sculpting it myself. I can paint, but I can’t sculpt in somewhat the same way as someone sewing a dress can sew it but not make the pattern (they may modify it, or make one from another one, but they don’t make it from nothing). Ok, some people can, but not all of them
lol
So I’m going to do this, and see how it works out. I’ll be posting pictures, after I get it ( which won’t be until I decide which sculpt to send).
The current wip, for the fundraiser, is almost done – pictures coming up sometime before Tuesday!
A fellow artist on the DSB forum was talking today about fairy kits for sale on a certain website. While I am not impressed with the very unrealistic sculpts that are the new fairies from that company, I do love fairies.
I think my favorite fairies have been those sculpted by Shawna Clymer, but I have also added fairy ears to several sculpts myself in the past because of the rarity of fairy sculpts. I have not attempted this in about 3 years, but the talk of fairies makes me want to try again.
Really I’d rather just reborn a fairy sculpt, but since I don’t like the fairies out there (BB and Secrist), I am wanting baby fairies (which eliminates Stoete’s slender young lady fairies), and Shawna’s baby fairy sculpts are sold out (no wonder, since they are adorable). That doesn’t leave any options left, so I believe that I will just add ears to one of my next three babies.
Hmm…now to decide which one… for my next three babies, I was thinking of reborning Owen (because I had promised a customer and the one I am currently doing is for a fundraiser), Honey (I have been wanting to try her with painted hair), and Felicia. I don’t want my baby fairy with painted hair, so that leaves Owen and Felicia. On the one hand, Felicia would be such a cute baby fairy, but on the other hand I have two Owen sculpts and can better afford to do one of them as a … non-traditional baby (fairies tend to not sell as well as regular babies).
What do you folks think?
Today was my last post at my blogger blog. Since this website has a blog, I am going to exclusively blog on here. Well, for reborning, though I might someday start a personal blog, but not seeing that right now. Hopefully I have fixed the tools on here so it posts everywhere I want it to. All the old posts from blogger are now on here, so they are together with my future posts. Happy reading you all and talk to you soon!
This forum is my home, where I can share my life, especially my love for creating reborns (that most people in my non-online life don’t understand, though some of them try). If you create reborn dollss, collect them, make clothes or other items for them, or are just curious about them, then this post is for you.
Dolls So Beautiful has been a fairly small group (in the lower hundreds in comparison to the higher hundreds or even more of big groups), but we’re ready to share with you and I think you’ll love it here. So here’s your invite:
